Steps in a Contested Divorce with Children

• A complaint for divorce is prepared, filed, and served by the sheriff on your spouse
• An answer must be filed within 30 days after service
• Each party must go to parenting class. There are many people that make a living doing this now
• Both parties must go to mediation.
• Both parties have to submit a parenting plan
• The discovery process must be completed. This includes interrogatories, depositions, requests for admissions, etc. by both parties
• The case may now be set for trial. Usually six to eight months away in urban areas and two or three months away in the country
• The case is tried and the judge decides your life for you and the children until they turn 18 and graduate from high school. Usually everyone is unhappy.
